NEW BOOK

"ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND LAW"

"Artificial Intelligence and Law" (Štědroň B., Jašek R. Svítek M., Navrátil J. et al.) published by Aleš Čeněk Publishing House, 2024

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a global phenomenon and the Czech Republic has been inspired by the most advanced countries such as the USA, Canada,

The Netherlands, Great Britain in designing its national strategy. This newly developed AI strategy sets priorities until 2030 and defines measures in seven interrelated areas. According to the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade, the strategy focuses on seven areas. In addition to education, industry and public services, these include science, where the document aims to strengthen AI research, the labour market with support for retraining, lifelong learning and prevention of digital exclusion, and cybersecurity, i.e. setting up a safe environment for AI applications.

The new monograph "Artificial Intelligence and Law", which consists of 9 chapters written by leading experts, builds on these facts. These chapters can be divided into 3 very topical problem areas. The first area, focusing mainly on the interaction between artificial intelligence and the legal system, includes the chapters,

conceived by R. Jašek, J. Navrátil, D. Kalášek, M. Kostrec, L. Nezmar and A. Bernardová. A separate part of the monograph is an analysis of the issue of discrimination on the labour market in the context of the development of artificial intelligence (M. Palíšková). The final two chapters (M. Svítek, B. Štědroň, J. Štědroň have a prognostic character and analyse possible forecasts and scenarios of the development of artificial intelligence and quantum computers. Very interesting is also the presentation of the development of artificial intelligence on the examples of chess programs.

The monograph contains new results and forecasts and can be recommended not only to information technology experts and lawyers, but to all university students, educators, managers and politicians.

"Umělá inteligence a právo" (Štědroň B., Jašek R. Svítek M., Navrátil J. a kol.) vydalo vydavatelství a nakladatelství Aleš Čeněk, 2024

koncipované R. Jaškem, J. Navrátilem, D. Kaláškem, M. Kostrecem, L. Nezmarem a A. Bernardovou. Samostatnou částí monografie je analýza problematiky diskriminace na trhu práce v kontextu vývoje umělé inteligence (M. Palíšková). Závěrečné 2 poslední kapitoly (M. Svítek, B. Štědroň, J. Štědroň mají prognostický charakter a analyzují možné prognózy a scénáře vývoje umělé inteligence a kvantových počítačů.

Velmi zajímavá je i prezentace vývoje umělé inteligence na příkladech šachových programů.

Monografie obsahuje nové výsledky a prognózy a je možné ji doporučit nejen odborníkům na informační technologie a právníkům, ale všem posluchačům vysokých škol, pedagogům, manažerům i politikům.

BOOK REVIEW

"Opportunities for Growth: the World 2100"

Wolters Kluwer Prague 2023, ISBN: 978-80-7676-089-9

The new publication by WOLTERS KLUWER integrates the issues of the sports segment into the technological and social trends of the future in an interesting way in English.

This is an indirect response to the 50th anniversary of the first Club of Rome report "The Limits to Growth", published in 1972, which attracted a lot of attention in the world media. The Limits to Growth was published in more than 30 languages and in more than 35 million copies, based on linear and exponential computer simulations that clearly predicted that economic growth could not continue indefinitely and that all resources, including energy, would be exhausted in a short time. The book modelled the depletion of about 19 non-renewable resources.

Today, 50 years later, we can analyse the strengths and weaknesses of Limits to Growth on the basis of published figures. On the one hand, it is quite clear that the forecast at the time was completely wrong on some points, and on the other hand, the warning and the need to address environmental problems and the need for legislative changes in the social system is still very relevant half a century later.

The concept of the book under review, "Opportunities for Growth: the World 2100", is quite different and consists of 3 chapters, 6 bold case studies (e.g. a sophisticated concept for the Olympic Games on the Moon by 2050 or a holographic model of the world to replace the current heliocentric model) and a conclusion. Much attention is paid to the segment of sport as a "counter-degenerative" agent in the development of civilization.

The foreword, prepared by the Minister Emeritus of Industry and Trade Ing. J. Mládek, CSc. presents an external view of the analysed issue. Two introductory chapters are devoted to future technological and economic trends,

which include the segment of artificial intelligence, 3D, RFID and the issue of the holographic model of the world, which will replace the current heliocentric model. Thoughtfully conceived case studies cover systemic aspects of the evolution of civilization, the Olympic Games on the Moon with multiplier effect, developments in the education segment and the holographic world model.

The famous publication "Limits to Growth" from 1972 is "sportingly" successful even at the senior age of 50. In 2022, a series of international conferences were held to address the issue of "Limits to Growth" after half a century. To name a few

"MIT-THE LIMITS TO GROWTH+50 CELEBRATION EVENT" created by The Club of Rome May 27, 2022,

"EARTH4ALL PRESENCE AT THE STOCKHOLM+50 CONFERENCE" created by The Club of Rome, June 02, 2022, VOLKSWAGEN FOUNDATION: "50 YEARS THE LIMITS TO GROWTH" created by The Club of Rome June 08, 2022.

In the Czech Republic, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of "The Limits to Growth", the conference "Management, Technology and Sport" was held at the Faculty of Sports Studies of Masaryk University in Brno, which also focused on the extraordinary role of sport in the development of civilization.

For these reasons, the monograph can be recommended to university students as well as top managers and politicians.
